My cousin is into restoring old antique canoes. Apparently the older ones used 3/16" CARRIAGE bolts for some of the seat assemblys, etc. He cannot find any up here anywhere, he's checked industrial suppliers, bolt houses, etc. Does anyone out there know any supplier (Canada or US) that might have them. He would prefer brass but stainless is OK and as a last resort, regular steel bolts. He needs 2", 3", and 4" lengths.

According to ANSI B18.5-1978, the #10 carriage bolt is still a standard size. It is .190 diameter. Back when I was trying to restore old buggies and carriages, I found that this size was used throughout, but I couldn't find them locally. Now with the internet, it should be easy. I would suggest the following, since they are in Amish country:

If Mc Master doesn't have them they may not be made. Have you check their catalog? I can check for you if you e mail me or post a note on this list.

Anything under 1/4" is a numbered machine screw. Thats why he couldn't find them.

No such animal. Try a boating supply outfit for 10-24 SS carriage bolts.

I live in lower Michigan and some of the local HWI hardware stores have 10-24 carriage bolts which are with in a few thousandths of a 3/16 -24 bolt.
