New Holland 256 bearing installation

How do you bolt up the tooth bar of a New Holland 256 hay rake after installing a new bearing? Getting the bearing in the bar is simple. The problem is that the bolt angle prevents the bolt from lining up with the hole. I know there is a trick to it. Thanks Doug

Take all but one of the four bolts out of the star shaped plate, on the end that you are working on. Attach a come along to the bar on the opposite end and use a block and Handi-man jack, to bow the bar. Worked for me yesterday on a 260 rake. Uncle, who is older and wiser says take all the bolts out of the star shaped plate and you get enough flex to make in work. He worked at New Holland dealer for 25 years I am sure he more right on the money than I am.

Thanks guys, especially Uncle. I loosened all five bearings and that allowed enough play to bolt it up easily.

You need to loosen the bar next to the one you are working on and the right side spider. An extra pair of hands don't hurt either!

Don't think that helps either. It will wedge because of the the angle.

One way is the entire plate on one end needs to have all the bars off of it, install all bearings at the same time.

My 55 rake had a rubber insert, square hole in the plate. It was possible to shove the rubber insert in after getting the bearing into the square hole. This was very tedious, but worked.

Loosening or prying has varrying effects.....
