Does anyone know if a blower unit has some sort of bushing or seal where the drive shaft passes thru the cast iron housing to the fan blade? The unit says 3E and U178 on the cast iron housing.

I have two, a large one about eight inches in impeller diameter, labeled "Climax", and a smaller one of about 5 1/2" of impeller size, but with no model numbers or names that are readily discernable. The small one definately has a bronze bushing visible on the hand crank shaft on the side away from the crank. The crank side has a long boss that the shaft runs through, and I cannot tell anything from that side. The larger Buffalo Climax has the same style boss, and there is enough end play in it that a small thin bushing will slide out a short way if I pull on the handle. The impeller covers up the other end of the shaft, and would have to be dismantled to find out more. If yours' is worn egg shaped, it could be drilled out and a bushing put in. But I haven't priced one lately, so unless you could do it yourself, it might not be cost effective. Hope this helps
