Does anyone know of a product that neutralizes mouse urine odors. I've had a '94 ranger sitting in my yard, unfortunately too long, for the 2nd time, too many things to do etc., finally got working on it, just going to be a work/service truck only has 70,000 miles. Once they invade something, seems they return to it, have not bothered anything else, surprisingly they have stayed out of my next project another truck, + with traps I keep freshly baited and this unbelievable mouser of a cat from next door that makes his happy hunting grounds my yard, the population has been down, this time of year they start to move indoors usually. They are a nuisance, seems like the odor from that truck kept em out of the other one, and only nipped some insulation on a short section of wire, easily seen and repaired.

I have the dash, steering column out, will replace the carpet, re-clean the seats, although they were behind the dash, so I think I've got it narrowed down to isolated soiled areas on some of the cab padding just under the windshield and the foam gaskets in the heating vent duct dampers etc. Will remove the heating ducts and enclosures to clean as well which is about as far as one could disassemble in the cab, certainly was the right thing to do, nest material, crap was everywhere. I will sanitize all before re-assembly, dash asssembly is getting replaced anyway, but for those tight crevice type areas or places where I can't just get, wondering if there is some product or homebrew that does neutralize the odor etc. Obviously I will clean to where nothing will reach which ought to help quite a bit, will replace the carpet too, amazing how that odor just stays put and is a beacon for other mice.

I don't know if this will work, but I am storing a truck for future repairs and I have place quite a few moth balls in the cab and heating system. Maybe the mice will stay out. I'll get back to you in a few years.

Yeah, do whatever you can to keep em out. Lot of work to clean the mess, and if they get into the wires, even worse. I hate to say it but the odor in this thing was almost enough to make ones eyes water, not quite, but real high on the rank, and reeking odiferous emination scale.

The only reason this one became so popular with these rodentious vermin, was due to the truck sitting for the same reason, had a run in with a boat trailer hitch after the gas pedal stuck, crunched the fender, missed the bumper, direct hit to the passenger floor board and the cab door post, my body guy was at a loss as what to do,required a new cab, which was not available, although salvage would have been fine, just have to switch the vin tag, and me knowing nothing about body work, let er sit, too busy was working away and before you know it they got in there, well I ended up filing a claim at the right time for it, they totalled it, but it was just sheet metal damage,at low speed, just a bad spot, so I bought it back for $100, and did not have to have a junk title for it. After settling the claim, I did a pretty decent job on the repair, it drove fine but that darned smell kept me out of that truck evne though I thought I had it cleaned out, so it sat again and the odor seemed to draw them in, still working away so baiting traps and or everything else I did still kept em coming back. Not a bad truck ran great, only sheet metal damage in a bad spot, not a lot of miles, new tires brakes and I could use it for my business and now after gutting the interior, NO more odor, grabbed a bottle of Natures Miracle, and with it stripped, I think I've got it this time. ALthough I'd bet with their keen sense of smell it would not be long again before they got in so I will have to keep em out.

Hi Neal,

The pH scale runs from 2 to 14 with 7 being neutral, 2 to <7 being acetic, and >7 to 14 being alkaline. The pH range of human urine is 4.8 to 8, with 6.4 being normal. The average pH of mouse urine is 5.3, acetic. How are we ever going to put a person on the moon if we can't even remember the pH of normal mouse urine?

All the best, Stan

Do appreciate the tips, and even better, I took out the heating system, so I can really clean that, may just replace it with one from the junk yard, but the real culprit is the rubber with padding that is up against the interior side of the firewall in the cab, was soaked with urine, probably some of it is also on the carpet, which will get replaced last and should clean up to make it tolerable, it was really nasty in there, but I'll just bet having that padding out between the dash and the firewall ought to finally do it, I'll see if the one I'm taking the dash out of has a decent one or find a substitute padding material.

I've raised voles and kept mice, and most would think that's weird, (the voles were actually really friendly) but you learn a lot about their habits, and same thing they did where I kept em as they did in the truck, used a place outside the nest to do their business, problem was I never found all those spots until now, hope the heck they never get in again, not too bad to take the interior down in this thing but I can see better things to do with ones time !!!

Febreze helps quite a bit as well--have a '76 Jeep CJ7 that had been stored in a barn, and spraying Febreze down fresh air intakes and running the fan helped clear quite a bit of the odor out.

Yeah, I wondered if that worked well, in a place I don't want to have to get to again, although the dash assembly on these are a cinch to get out, plug and play once the steering column is out, saw Bissel has pet stain and odor remover spray that uses enzyme action, only problem areas is where foam or padding is involved, be nice to have something work, that and some elbow grease to clean anything accessible, yeah, no more vehicles sittin in the yard, I tell ya.

The stuff i use from petsmart is real fabric safe.. i've not found a material is was incompatible with.. except perhaps white materials that may 'water-stain'.

Hi Billy,

Pet stores sell products which neutralize urine and other organic based smells by enzyme action. I use such a product called Simple Solution. Another product named Nature's Miracle seems to be the best seller, if shelf space is any indication. You can buy either one in a spray bottle. The brand I buy can be sprayed in a stream or a mist. The product must contact the organic source to neutralize it. Good luck.

There ya go! The stuff is not cheep but it does work. There is a guy at the flea market that sells pet stuff for bulk prices. A gallon is about $18.oo. Put it on or spray it on and let it sit. Jeffcat

Do appreciate the information on those products, been hoping to find a product on the shelf that works, got everything apart so now is the time, that odor seems to regenerate itself, I've had this thing apart in '01, smell kind of lingered still, but this time I've taken everything out so I can get to anywhere those little buggers have been, salvage guy has everything I need for me to remove from a parts vehicle on Sat. so it would be great to sanitize and neutralize everything prior to, just have to make sure to use a product that works, or that odor will come back that is for sure.

Somehow when I read yer title I saw MOOSE instead of Mouse. I was wondering WHY you would let a MOOSE into your vehicle in the first place.

LOL, yeah that'd be a little cramped for moose, there actually was a good sized one running around nearby just recently, it was in the newspaper, just a little bigger than the whitetail deer I'm used to, surprised I've never had one here, with the marsh and swamps around.
