I got one on Ebay a few years ago. Its an old Athol, which is now Starrett, weighs around 225 pounds, opens to about 12 inches, retails for around $1600, but I got it for around $400 plus $50 truck shipping. I have since seen them on Ebay of the same size made by others such as Columbia.

Try searching for "vise" instead of "vice", but continue to search under both spellings in case someone misspelled it.

I saw one in Texas at a guys ranch that he bought from a aerospace company "fire sale" but he still paid A LOT for it. I work for the railroad on the track. The car shops do have plenty of BIG BIG anvils and vices but they are used up till they are scrap or if they are not...they "disappear".....you know. Like others said look in classifieds and auction sites. I wouldn't mind having one myself. the guys that have happened across them without paying a nice ransom are lucky souls. If money is no object, I am sure you can find one. Best of luck.

Ebay is possible, but shipping will kill you on 100 lbs. Try Google search: Vise Craigslist. Or even Railroad Vise Craigslist. Maybe you will get lucky and find one in reasonable driving distance. Just a thought. Doug

My vise came from a salvage yard. A neigbor had seen they had 15-20 of them and told my Dad about it. Both my Dad and older brother bought one. This was like 50 years ago. Ours cost $5 and my brother paid $7. I still have the one my Dad bought. It has 7" jaws and weighs over 200#. It ain't goin' anywhere as long as I'm around.
