I've got a newer truck that had both of those plastic ventshades blow off going down the highway. My problem (now) is that the double stick glue is still on the paint, and leaves a pretty shade of ugly on my blue truck

How do I get this stuff off of the paint? Think acetone would work without damaging it?

One of the few things WD 40 is good for is just this and a product called Goof off. I found it at walmart good for taking dealer labels off the trunk lids.

Rubbing alcohol. It will not damage the paint. Liberal amounts on a soft cloth. It's cheap, you probably already have it, and it works.

WD 40 & a razor blade works great for the tape itself, then spray again & a clean rag. Won't hurt the paint.
Don't tell any "authorities" that i said this, but if done carefully, inspection stickers can be saved & re-used if you have to replace a windshield.

Oil breaks up many adhesives.

Let the oil soak a day or two then wash of with soap or detergent and water.

When I used to work on the car lots, we used 3M Adhesive Remover, which is a spray-on product designed specifically for this purpose.

A good auto parts store that handles body supplies will carry an eraser wheel. It is made to remove double sided tape or pinstriping without damaging the paint. It can be run with a 3/8 drill or low speed die grinder.

do like msm said use the eraser wheel, then if there is any residue left follow up with an auto body wax and grease remover like prep sol or pre cleano. here is a picture of the eraser wheel. we use them at the shop for moulding adhesive and pin strpe and decal removal. they work real good and do not damage the paint

Instead of removing adhesive, I need replace the adhesive on the reflector strip that is mounted across the center of the tailgate on a 1986 Ford F250. Someone tried to take the reflector off by pulling on it from the end, and broke about half of it loose from the underlying grey plastic strip which is mechanicaly fastened to the sheet metal. The other half of the grey plastic pulled out of the metal and is still adhered to the reflector strip and I would like to know what was used to fasten the two together. I tried ABS cement but it didn't seem to soften the plastic very much. Do you know what cement to use?
Thanks

I have had good luck with a hair dryer.
the glue should soften up long before it gets to the paint.

Dunno about Goof Off as it's a paint solvent, but Goo Gone is made to dissolve adhesives.Try it someplace like inside gas door first.Peanut butter will dissolve many glues, but is slightly abrasive.

Goof off is nothing more than watered down paint remover!!!!! !!

Read the label and compare.
