I am trying to install a 24 volt transformer on my out door boiler. (Add on damper) I got a transformer from a buddy of mine and the wires coming out of the transformer are as follows.

Black- says normally open
Yellow- says normally closed
Red- Common
Blue wires (2 of them) says to thermostat.
What I want to do is have this power my damper motor when it calls for heat and close the damper when it reaches a set temp.
My question is what wires to hook up and should I get 24 volts off the blue wires when I touch the ends with my volt meter.

It's a relay. Obsolete part#. Used for 2 speed blower, damper change over, many things.

I have seen similar boxes that have both a transformer and a relay inside for controlling a 120 volt furnace blower, etc. using a low voltage thermostat. BUT yours doesn't have enough wires to have both. I'd bet that all you have is a relay in the box.

I would guess it is a 24V relay for controlling fan speed for the heat/cool cycles. Changes the fan speed to high speed when in the cooling mode.

If you have a 24v power supply handy, hook it to the two blue wires and see if the box clicks. If it does it is a relay and not a transformer.

I agree if it has normally open and normally closed contacts that it is not a transformer but a relay or some kind of switch. Use your ohmmeter and check between all wires and tell us what readings you get. There is no standard color code for 24 volt transformers but usually the primary would be the black and the red. The 2 blues would be the output volts and the yellow a center tap. Check the wires and maybe able to help you. If it is a 24 volt transformer be careful in your tests as if you get the secondary connected to the line then the other side will be about 600 volts that will blow that transformer if it is one.

It sounds like you have a RELAY, or a combination RELAY/transformer. ANYHOW, you have more than just a "transformer".

What is the make and model # of the part you are working with? Knowing that would sure help!

No camera and I also done a search on line for it too. I hooked the red up to the common wire in my extention cord and the black up to the hot side and no voltage (24 came out the blue wires) tried the yellow wire also. The guy I got it from said it worked when it was taken off, he cant remember what it came off of though. It is in a clear plastic box with the three wires coming out the back and the 2 blue wires come out the side. Hope this helps.

I was hoping it would be a Honeywell or White-Rodgers or other name-brand control part that it would be easy to find a data sheet for!

A quick search of the Lennox on-line parts site for that part # come up empty.

Are there any other numbers on it ?

Could you post a photo?
