I just had the rear dics brakes replaced at the local dobs and they did a great job. But now I need to replace the fronts. I started to try but I can't figure out how to get the caliper off. Its not like my 1/2 ton chevy. Any ideas would be great. I just need to replace the pads. Thanks.

they make cheap haynes manuals that are descriptive enough for stuff like this.

Rick is correct. I prefer proper caliper slide grease, however. Any auto parts has it. And may I suggest a Haynes manual? If you're keeping the truck it will save you time and money, plus will have important stuff like torque specs, which you'll need on that Allen bolt. About $20 at any auto parts.

If memory serves me correctly, remove the bolt thats in the slide at the bottom of the caliper. It takes a 1/4" allen wrench. Drive the slide/anti-rattle spring out with a punch. Make sure to brush all the rust and junk off the caliper and mounts before you put it back together. I always put a VERY light coat of anti-seize on the sliding areas before reassembly. (Grease collects dirt more easily). I'm assuming this is an older body style 3500HD, since you said it wasn't like your 1500; not a Silverado 3500HD (newer body style) which, like a 1500 has slide bolts. Rick
