Has anybody had any experience with or heard about Makita gas powered chainsaw. Input would be appreciated.

I sold and repaired Makita saws for several years. They are Sacs Dolmar saws. Very good German made saws. Bought out by Makita sometime in the 90's. I also sold and did warranty work on Husqvarnas. They are of similiar quality. Spend a few years working on saws for a living if you want to be able to accurately evaluate them. Using a rental saw for a few hours is not a fair evaluation. Husqvarna was an extremely good saw at one time. When a good piece of equipment is sold to discounters like Wallmart and TSC, The quality soon drops. They demand it by haggling over wholesale price.

I have had a Makita model 520i with an 18 inch bar for about 20 years now and it still starts just like the first day I had it, it usually starts after one or two pulls and it dosent bog down even if I'm taking a full 18 inch cut with it.

I rented 1 too. My old wore out sears had more power and cut better. I took it back and told them about it, they said that was the way it was. I told them them they had a saw that was a good boat anchor.

I have a Sachs Dolmar 120 super. 4.2 ci. It's over 20 years old and still runs great. The Makita is the Dolmar.

I cut fire wood for two homes so this saw gets a work out each year.

My neibor rented a Makita from home Depot last fall to cut down a few Aspen trees. I had to finish the next day and he was in disbelief of how much better my Husky 346xp cut. He had a new chain and I had a lot of cutting experiance. I can't say I saw it run but that was his reaction.

Makita and dolmar are both still made and are the same saw with different numbering. I have 1 new makita from lowes a few years old now and about 4 dolmars I bought at auctions. I like them very much. They are a good german made saw. Who owns who I dont know and dont really care.

I WORK FOR HOME DEPOT IN THE RENTAL DEPT AND WE RENT THE MAKITA 6401 AND IT IS A GREAT SAW, WE HAVE BEEN USING THEM FOR AT LEAST 5YEARS AND THEY ARE BETTER THAN THE 365 HUSKY WE REPLACE IT WITH, THE RENTAL INDUSTRY IS THE TOUGHEST CHALLENGE FOR A TOOL

I ALSO OWN ONE MYSELF AND IT REPLACED A 044 STIHL THAT I HAD STOLEN AND WILL PREFORM RIGHT ALONG WITH A 044

AND YES MAKITA BOUGHT OUT DOLMAR

My cousin has an old saw with the name Dolmer or Dalmer on it. I believe they were bought by Makita years ago. If its the same saw, they are some tough good cutting saws, but quite heavy.
