Need Help w/ Poulan Cheap Saw

Folks:

Deliberately bought cheap Poulan saw(model 2150) , believing it would be equivalent to the cheap Homelite I bought 25 years ago.Not so!

Apparently the Poulan is equipped with Low Profile Chain and bar. I want to retrofit with more aggressive chain. Can someone tell me what Oregon chain or equivalent to buy to achieve aggressiveness. Also, will I need a different bar?

I'm going to turn my Poulan into an old Homelite equivalent yet. Thanks , Bob Virgil and IH2444.

By the way , IH2444 , my go to tractor is a IH 444 diesel. Great machine, better than my old Homelite.

I have a 2150 Poulan, have had it 10 years and probably cut 50 pickup loads of firewood with it.

The original Poulan chain has 2 blank links between each cutter link.

I use Oregon S56 chains, one spacer link between cutter links They work great

After you use the 2150 awhile it will start to lose power. When it does take the muffler apart and clean out the carbon.

I bent open the two outlet slits on the rear of the muffler on my 2150 and it had a noticible amount more power. and this was with a clean muffler.

I also use S56 chains, get 2 packs of them at wally world for $23.

Cuts very reasonable, if you put a more agressive chain on them they will bog, the engine is sized for an S56 chain.

Stumpalump and CWL, many thanks. I make only relatively light use of the saw. The old Homelite was my go to saw for most tasks. I only broke out the Stihl for the heavy stuff.

Just seems to me that the same displacement in the Poulan ought to deliver something comparable to the Homelite. I'm willing to sacrifice saw life to get the job done.

File down the knubs in front of each tooth for a deeper cut. I have a professional Husky but my cheap Poland is the back up that never lets me down. File or cut off the carb adjusting stops and open up your muffler and that thing will sing. Use extra oil in the gas also.

I have a cheap Poulan saw that I put a more agressive chain on. It works better. All you really need to do is stay with the same size chain, but don't get the one with the reduced kickback "guard" teeth. Those chain only have a cutting tooth every 3 or 4 links.

putting a more agressive chain on a small saw will be like putting tractor trailer wheels and tires on a s 10 pickup. The low profile chain cuts a smaller kerf and is engeneered for the rps and power that your saw is putting out. Now you will have the iniatial purchase price and the cost of a new bar and chain into a combo that wont work too well. If you have the reciept and can return the poulan for a refund that is what I would do and spend about twice as much and get something well worth owning. Personally I like dolmar, stihl, echo and husky in that order. Homelite used to be good but now they are only fair. I stay away from poulan and mc clough completely.
