mcculloch PM 605 chain saw gas/oil ratio

A guy just gave me an old Mcculloach chainsaw. It says PM605 on the back of it which I assume is the model number. I dumped the old gas, put in new gas/oil at 40:1 ratio, I then cranked it over a bit and go it running. Once it started it now starts with one pull and seems to accelerate real nicely. The bar and chain look hardly used. However, I did notice that the plastic portion of the pull choke is broken, and you have to take the air breather off to choke. Also the big problem is I am not sure of the oil gas ratio. It is not marked on the gas cap like a lot of brands. I have searched the web and have seen all kinds of suggestions but no one seems to be getting the info from a manual. I would prefer not to over medicate with oil and foul the plug and everything else, but I don"t want to run it light on oil either. If anyone has a manual on this saw and could help me out on the ratio I would greatly appreciate.

I have the same saw and have been running it for years on a 40:1 ratio with no problems. I had the same worries when I bought mine used from an auction for $40. I also could not find any answers to the gas/oil ratio. All my other 2 stroke equipment ran 40:1 so I tried that and checked the condition/color of the plug after a little run time. It has maintained a nice golden brown color which is what you want. But it depends on the condition of your engine. If the carburetor isn't adjusted correctly or if the engine is worn the plugs may appear fouled. Just make sure the idle, low and high speed adjustments are all correct before judging the color of the plug. I used my saw alot as we used wood to warm our home. I tune it up and adjust everything every fall.

My Pro Mac 650 book calls for 40:1 when using "McCulloch Custom Lubricant" or 20:1 with "SAE 40 Two Cycle Oil". I've run Stihl oil in mine at 40:1 for 3 years with no ill effects.
