New air compressor that I discussed around Thanksgiving time works great...25 cfm at 175 psi, should have gotten this long ago. However, every time it starts up the phone up in the wife's kitchen rings one time! What the Heck!? She says is that going to do that forever? And I say can do without a phone but not the compressor. Any suggestions out there?

The problem is not with the phone or the compressor, but with the wife. Are you sure you need her?

Good answer! However, on a less entertaining note, here's an idea: Do the lights dim a bit when the compressor starts? If you're pulling line voltage down a bit due to start load on the compressor, electronics on the same breaker box will do odd things...

In my shop, every time the phone rings the compressor starts up, these things seem to be linked cosmically somehow.

The phone is ringing because the phone line is routed through the wall close to the same wire that goes to the air compressor. I assume that the air compressor has it's own wiring that is not connected to anyother outlets. The solution is to reroute (if possible) the telephone line so that it is not near the electrical lines. The other possible solution is to call the phone company and ask if they have some type of filter to put on the line to prevent this. Also check with Radio Shack. They may have a filter to help solve this problem.

To Wild Bill: It takes a lot to get me laughing at 6 o'clock in the morning, but your reply did it. Can't wait to show my wife when she gets up!

Not much amuses me at 6.00am either John. My problem is not induced voltage or the like, just plain Murphy's law, phone rings, I pick it up, compressor fires up and I can't hear a thing. "How do it know?"
