Hi all, I'm restoring an old 2 cylinder Wisconsin engine and thought I would like to rig up some kind of useful gadget without spending a ton of money. Does anyone know if a belt drive AC generator (about 3 kw)is available? Any other ideas for a neat belt drive accessory?
Good Luck and God Bless, Tommy

Are you near NE IA? I have one I think is 3500 watt. I'm not sure, but will see it tomorrow at our showdays. It is a heavy chunk for what it has output.

This one was bolted to a AC WC and provided power for a electric chain saw to cut fire wood. If you are a JD fan it came from land adjoining the town of Frolic Ia. Basicly the first John Deere seeds came from there. The guy had a very bright orange barn, so therefore using a electric chain saw powered by a tractor / generator didn't stand out so much perhaps?

I hang out on the JD side of the hill mostly so if I do not respond, give me a yell over there. Show days are hard on a old body, so my head will think it needs to rest on a pillow more than usual.

Hook a 130 amp alternator and battery to it. then either use 12V or use cheap inverters. Much cheaper than buying a generator head.

We used an old Briggs 5-hp to spin an alternator which in turn powered the (12-volt) lights for our sugar shanty. Worked fine for many years until we bought a generator and went to 110-V AC power. I believe you can get belt-drive generator heads from Surplus Center among other places.

well they used to be available. The one my stepfather built for his house is belt driven from an old Wisconsin 8 horse single. I think the generator is WWII surplus its around 2000 Watt.

Northern Tool, amoungst others, will have the belt-drive alternator. NOT cheap, though!
