Stihl is not a bad saw, but you pay a lot of money for a name. Stihl makes two differant saws, a consumer product and a commercial product. They are highly overrated, they use a fuel line that, in time (1-5 years) you will replace, and it can only be bought from a Stihl dealer, about $6.00 last one we bought, their air filters are over priced, some as high as $20.00. Theri warranty is a little suspect, I have heard of customers being denied warranty because they used an 89 octane fuel, said they were using too cheap of fuel. If you want a serious saw, get a Dolmar saw, they are still a german built saw, and are reasonably priced, a 16" will be aorund $225.00 Any saw you buy will have parts issues in 10-15 years or less, that is the nature of the saw industry. If you want a good reasonably priced saw, get a Poulan Pro saw. A neighbor had one he used for over 10 years, run over it with a tractor, do not understand why it broke, but it did, I guess they do not make 'am like they used to. ) If you think I am wrong with my opinion on Stihl, go to your local Stihl dealer, see how many Stihl saws are in his shop, then see how many of what other brands are there, you will more than likely see a lot of Stihls there, I am not a Stihl dealer, but we work on a lot of them, and most of them are fuel line problems, they are an accordian looking line, they crack and leak fuel, and we also have to replace some Stihl carbs, we try to rebuild them and it cannot be done correctly, and Stihl is the only one we have this problem with. My third choice of a Saw, after dolmar and Poulan Pro, would be Echo, then Shindaiwa, then Husquvarna, then Stihl. some of the small Husqvarna are the same saw as the cheap green Poulan saws, so you have to watch that also.
