I was wanting to know if any of you all do much fabrication of things and addition to machines that you have. I have done quite a bit and all seems to work ok. Starting in 1960 at least 40 different projects. Very interesting projects to say the least. All replys are welcome.

So is it worth asking if any of you guys has ever tried to make a replacement manifold for a 1952 New Major - E1ADKN? Apparently, they have a habit of crcking and mine's just got the habit! Or do you know anybody or a company that makes them - or could make them if given a sample or the right drawings?? There may be enough demand out there to make a small production run viable. Any information gratefully received ....

You might check out Farm Show magazine, it's more of a newspaper really, but it's packed full of stuff people have built. There's a website for it too, dont remember the name but do a search on yahoo or google for "Farm Show" and you'll find it.

Have to. Unless you have large bucket full of money. Always amazed what you can do without going to store. Save everything, you'll need it next week, month, year.

Yep, Dad and I often comment that there aren"t many things around here that we haven"t made outright, made paerts for, or otherwise modified in some way.

Ditto what the others said. hard to own old stuff and not be able to make at least emergency parts.

I've had plenty of brazed or welded up clutch linkage rods.. just to get tractor out of wherever the clutch linkage went out.. and into the shop.. even made a few using round stock and clevises.. Thread one end and walla... I have a ford 660 with that still functioning after years..

I've got an 8n that I used a section of heavy walled carport tube as the top part of the housing for the steering shaft where it protrudes from the steering box.. had to turn down the ID at the steering wheel end to accept the top bushing, and the OD at the steering box end to get the tube pressed into the top of the box / bearing carrier.. etc..kinda odd.. but she works great! ( the steering shaft on that tractor is hollow.. has been broke, pinned solid and welded... )

Don't know how you can work on old tractors without being one.

Sure. I've been a welder/fabricator all my life. I build and fix anything from lawnmower decks to pharmaceutical and everything in between. I'm in a job shop, so most every day is different.

I'm always making something for my toying around with tractors. The other day I made the front two landslides for the oliver 3 bottom plow we have. Doug N

My latest fabrication project was a set of splitting stands. Now I can just install the stands on an H or an M, remove a few bolts and disconnect a few other things, and then simply roll the back half away from the front.

Yep I do a lot of stuff like that. I have made a V type snow plow to fit my loader tractor and a bunch of other stuff. I also copy stuff from pictures I find and then make copys of the stuff

Ive done the same thing. My last project was a log hauler that cost 200.00 to build.Ready made one sells for 1800.00.My log hauler lifts the logs off the ground,no mud to dull the sawmill blade.
