Stainless steel batteries

This is in relation to the post below about stainless steel. A friend of mine related a story to me about a shop that built a battery service table out of stainless steel. It worked fine until one of the employees spilled some battery acid on it.

I don't recall the excating specifics for chemical reaction between sulfuric acid, nickle and chrome but it does make for a nasty mix even worse than chlorine bleech and ammonia reactions and the resulting gas could very well kill you with very little exposure.

Just figured I'd throw this out here as another FYI posting.

Sorry, the title of the above post should have read, "stainless steel and batteries" not "stainless steel batteries". Fingers and brain not working on the same level again.

Saw a fellow once who used stainless gear clamps to hold his car battery in the deteriorated battery box. Clamps were destroyed quickly, confiming your information.
