Dang Tornado!

I asked this same question on the J.D. Forum and the guys gave me some good advice. Thought I'd ask it here also. Body work is not my area of expertise. A tornado put a pretty big dent in the hood of my John Deere 320S. The dent is at the point where the hood turns down and is on the crease. Looks like the "Louisville Slugger" gave it his best shot. How should I go about removing this dent? Your help is appreciated!

If its a pretty nice tractor, take it off and to a body shop. If you really want to tackle it yourself, buy a body hammer, DO NOT use a ball peen. Get a large nosed pick hammer, not much of a point on it, start at the outside of the dent and start tapping like you're hammering on glass, If you see sheet metal move on the first hit, you're striking too hard. A good metal man would take an hour to remove this and metal finish it. Just estimates. Plan on spending two or three just to lift the dent out. and good luck, John

The tractor is not real nice yet but it will be if I can get this dent out. What should I use as a backstop behind the area that I am working on? Tugboat

I would use a small sandbag like they sell for weight in the back of a pickup,,, maybe drape a cloth over it, professional metalsmiths use a leather bag filled with sand. John Ne.
