Does anybody know if a non-ac acheiva has a water pump that spins opposite of the ac acheiva? Mine had ac but it'll cost me $1200 in parts alone to fix it, so it ain't needed anymore. now the clutch on the ac compressor is making some noise and there are metal filings underneath it. In order to get around this I'd just not route the belt to it, but the water pump would have to have the belt go around it the other way then.

Does anybody know, or did they have some other goofy set-up for an acheiva w/out air? Were they even available w/out air?

Check to see if it takes a different drive belt for the ac vs non ac.... May be that there is a differnt length belt, to make up for differnece in belt routing.

That alone wouldn't solve my problem. The water pump pulley is smooth and the belt goes under it, then over the grooved AC puley, then around the rest of the routing. If I just took out the AC w/out switching anything else the pump would spin backwards.

You might decide of it's a 4-cylinder, or a 6-cylinder, then go to RockAuto.com. and look up the parts, to see if the water pumps vary between AC and non-AC models.

You could just replace the A/C Compressor Pulley. Disco the connector and use it as an idler. As far as the water pump direction, it should be the same with or without the A/C unit connected. I'm sure that there is more than one car out there that has had the A/C routed out of the system. Well at least I know of a few that are.
