Post hole auger Stand?

I want to build a stand for my post hole drill. It's just me now to wrestle the bugger on and off the tractor. I have a basic idea but, was wondering if anyone on here has one or might have some insight on the making of one? Maybe even a couple pics? They say a picture is worth a whole bunch or something like that. Thanks

I built a tripod out of the angle iron from a king sized bed frame to use as a post hole digger stand...it works real well.

I just took 3 equal length sections, welded them together at the top, then welded pieces between the bottoms to brace the 3 legs, backed the tractor up and suspended the post hole digger from the top of the tripod....if I ever get a concrete floor in the barn, I will put casters on it so I can roll it around, haha.

I traded mine away for something that was little more useful. The digger was useful when I bought it. Anyway when it got a reasonable amount of use I would take it off and put in on the tractor in manageable pieces. Like just the auger and gear head I could place against the wall with a handtruck. The rest of the components I could handle by hand and they hung on wall of shed. My BIL always twisted his in the ground for storage but make sure you don't have to dig it out by hand.

I use a piece of 2 inch wide strap from a tie-down. The strap is over a truss in the barn. I back the tractor up, hook the strap together under the main beam just in from of the gear box, which is a prefect balance point. The strap is always left at the same length, just hooked or unhooked together. Then i let the 3-point down until the strap holds the weight, unhook the links, and the digger just hangs there ready for the next hookup. Works perfect. I can even remove and sharpen blades, change augers, etc while it hangs there. Tom

I back mine in next to the wall of the pole barn and rope the gearbox to a pole.

Thanks fawteen, I did that with the neighbors when I would use his but, I never tied it off. His was still a wrestling match for one guy to hook up. I haven't tried it that way with mine yet.

I have seen a neighbor weld a ring on the top of his and use a chain to hang it from a rafter in his barn and that works very well. I have borrowed same digger and when I finished with it I stood it up next to a post and tied it off to keep it upright and that worked ok too. This is an old Servis brand digger and it is HEAVY, if it is laying on the ground it takes two men to stand it up and hook it up, no way one man can do it by himself. But either hanging or tied off, I have no problem hooking it up when I am alone.

This does have a ring type set up and that would probably work. I don't know if I have a beam maybe close in a corner so it would be out of the way? I'll have to consider that as a possibility.

Some folks do that, but it does promote rapid rusting... We always just used a comealong & hung ours from a rafter in the shed..

Dieselrider, Down here in Texas we just dig a shallow hole with the post hole digger, say 18" to 2 ft deep. Set the auger down into it. Then just simply unpin the digger from the 3 pt arms, and remove the PTO shaft from the tractor shaft and just simply drive away. No need to build anything. If you need it under cover dig the hole there under a pole barn. or other covered structure with a dirt floor.

How about the tips rusting ? I am afraid here in Pa the point would take a real pounding from the moisture. It would make hookup easier though. Thanks

Yes it will rust some, but the first hole will shine/clean it right up. We run Rock bits here not the blade type for regular dirt/soil digging.
I usually take a hammer and big Channel lock pliers.
Just tap on the individual teeth, rotate each tooth a little and you are good to go! Hope this helps!
