New NiCad rechargeables

New batteries are sold in sealed packs. I wonder if they are charged when packaged? And what happens if they are stored for a long time before being opened and used? Will they refuse to accept a charge? Or hopefully, the battery will last literally forever until it is opened, charged and used. But that seems too much to hope for. I just bought new Milwaukee batteries recently and now they are replacing my old bad ones on the recall program. I will have more batteries than I can use at this time. Prices for them on eBay seem to have dropped a lot, too.

Nicads store for a long time without damage Should be no problem. The odd thing with ni cads,Nimh and most others is that the best way to store them for a long time is in a discharged condition,not stone dead,but run down. The worst thing you can do is treat them like a lead/acid battery and repeatedly recharge them without use during long term storage.

I would not have believed this had I not Googled "NiCad battery care" Check it out if you doubt.
