I am replacing the metal brake lines on a 97 chevy s 10 and the old fittings dont want to go on the new unions I bought for the new line to old line connection. My calipers say the line to the rear is 1/4 inch and the lines to the front wheels are 3/16. The new 1/4 inch line fitting will screw into the old rusty union that runs to the rear wheels But the old fitting on the end of the old line wont hand thread into the new union. Does anyone know off the top of their head if these trucks used fractional sized lines or metric ones? Thank you in advance.

The fittings will have to be reused, and the lines double flared. I just did my 98 back in feb, bought the line in a roll, and bent and flared as needed. the lines are hard to get even from the dealer, and NAPA extra fitting don"t fit. The lines are a standard size.

I think the tubing size is the same as always, a fractional size. The fitting nuts on the newer models, such as yours, are metric. I've changed the ends, and re- double flared the tubing when doing repairs.
