Is there a way to reset a blinking air bag light on a 1995 Mercury Sable? Started blinking about 2 weeks ago. Seems to be blinking a trouble code like a check engine light. 4 blinks, pause, 1 blink. Car has not been wrecked or bumped. This started about a month ago. It would blink for a few minutes then stop. For the last 2 weeks it's been constant. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ted.

Go to Auto Zone and have them scan the car for free. Otherwise I would be off to the dealer for an opinion.

I have a 2000 taurus that developed an airbag light issue right after I bought it (3 years ago with 47K on the odometer). Dealer said it was a connector that is under the driver's seat. A classic case of a $0.25 part that cost $100.00 to repair.

I don't mess around with the airbag stuff. Besides being able to kill you if these go off they cause so much damage in an old car they are generally totalled out.

In my 03 S-10 Pickup, had the light come on and stay on every so often. Still had used vehicle warranty so took it to the Chevy dealer. They changed both sensors on the bumper, and it still had problems. Called in the most experienced tech, and he replaced the Main Wiring Harness. They gave me a rental car for the two day ordeal, and no charge. They did say that it would have cost $1,500. Good luck.

I believe that is a code 41 which indicates an open in one of the forward crash sensors. I think there are three sensors in the front. One on RH side one on LH side and one on the radiator. I would take care in working on that system without a full knowledge of how it works.

Thanks everyone for the advice. This sounds like something better left to someone smarter than me. Probably cost more to fix than the car is worth. Thanks again,Ted.

If you do any work or checking be sure to disconnect the battery and wait at least one minute or longer as there is a back-up power supply that powers air bag for at least a minute after the battery power is lost.
