i have a miller cp300 wire welder. it's a 3 phase unit. i'm moving to a different shop that does not have 3 phase and am wondering if anyone knows if i can somehow convert this thing to run on 220 single phase. i dont need to weld anything really to heavy so even if power drops off some wont be a big issue.

Hi Gary,

I've read on this forum that some 3-phase welders can be altered for single phase operation by the simple adjustment of internal connections. If that isn't a possibility you may be facing the necessity of buying or building a rotary phase convertor. There are whole forums on the net devoted to them.

Good luck, Stan

I would think you need a phase convertor. 3 phase will have a smoother output though. Dave

I should clarify. Getting a phase convertor so you can run a 3 phase machine will be a smoother arc than a single phase machine. Dave
