Hi MF294-4 (in the future all names will be like yours), Once I bought a used stick welder and got all of the seller's weldng supplies with it. There was a package of assorted electrodes including some that were specifically for metal cutting. The description on the package said these were mild steel electrodes with chemicals in the flux to improve metal cutting qualities. Whoever made them, they were sold as Montgomery Ward electrodes so you aren't going to have any luck trying to find that particular brand. But because they once existed, maybe somebody still makes them. I've cut steel with 6010 electrodes with the amps really cranked up. You'll quickly find how high you can turn up your welder w/o burning up the electrodes, and also whether you like it better with the rods wet or dry. It's slow and it's messy. The melted metal running together behind the cut is the main problem. I suspect that you'd have trouble cutting metal thicker than 1/4" unless you have 3/16" or larger rod and 250 amps or more. The duty cycle is likely to be a problem unless you have an extremely powerful welder. Certainly there are faster, easier, cleaner, and probably cheaper ways to cut metal, but you already have a stick welder. If it works for you but it's slow, remember that you can probably get a lot of metal cut in the time you would be out shopping for different equipment; if it's relatively expensive, remember that it's a bargain until the cost exceeds what you would pay for different equipment plus whatever that equipment would cost to run. Let us know how it works for you. I've never known anybody who used it except in last ditch circumstances. It's kind of like building furniture with an ax---it can be done, but it's hard to think of a situation where you'd choose to do it that way. All the best, Stan
