I am in the process of building a simple tractor for a project in Africa I need to find a copy of the specification for catagory one three point linkage. Does anyone out there know what the specification consists of?

Try this pdf file. It's an old version of the spec but I doubt much has changed.

Thanks guys for your excellent replies.

I have yet another conunderum that I am struggling with,the tractor I am building uses recycled automotive components which sit in a ladder chassis similar to a jeep configuration the first one I built had a version of a three point linkage powered by a single acting ram and controled by a simple single acting spool valve for lift.
The difficulty arises when say ploughing, you lift at the end of a run turn and want to return to your working depth you have no means of presetting that depth hydraulicaly. One can use either a land wheel or an adjustable drop chain but neither of these allow for subtle depth changes or a degree of weight transfer. Does anyone know of an existing simple arrangement that would give me position control using a quadrant lever and could be retro fitted into a chassis design?

It would be very hard to make your own type of draft control. You could make a system for keeping the depth the same but as far as weight transfer (draft control) you'ld need to be as smart as Harry Ferguson. No offence but it took him years and years to figure it out. Dave

A depth stop that uses a rod (or cable) back to the hydraulic control valve that "kicks it off" when it drops to the set depth.

If what's here isn't enough look for specifications from the SAE (Society Automotive Engineers) where the specifications may go on for several pages with details you didn't think of at first.
