The manual should tell you which way it turns. I'd suspect its like most everything else and turns clockwise looking at it from the drive (pulley) end. If you garden tractor has enough power to turn the generator with the engine at something less than max RPM, it would be good to select pulley sizes to keep the engine turning as slow as possible and still get full output. For example, if you select pulleys to turn the generator at 3600 RPM with the engine turning at some lower RPM, say 2000, the engine will use less fuel, last longer, and be a LOT quieter. 7.2 kW is a little under 10 horsepower assuming no losses. In practice, it would probably take something on the order of 12 - 14 horsepower to turn the generator at full load. Depending on how your lawn mower engine is rated, it may or may not be able to put out this much power at a lower RPM. One other thing to watch is how well the governor on the mower engine works. Maintaining a constant speed isn't particularly important for mowing lawns, but it is for running a generator. On a self-excited generator, which this most likely is, output voltage as well as frequency is directly proportional to generator speed. You don't want excessive dips when you apply a load, or even worse, surges when you remove a load, because the lawn mower governor can't respond fast enough. Keith
