There is a lot of discussion about painting but so far I haven't read anything about painting with an airless. Is it completely out of the question? What are the disadvantages? I'm aware that you can't approximate a showroom finish but how about just for machinery used to work around the place?

I'm in need of a manual or specs for a Cambell Hausfeld airless sprayer.
Its a 1/2 hp., 2500 PaintPro model: AL 1200
My first question is: What type of oil is used in the Pump?, and how full should the pump housing be?
These two questions are critical to make sure the unit operates.
If not, I'll be looking for a rebuild kit. Any advice and/or recommendations is greatly appreciated. A

Ditto to what Brian and VATom wrote. An airless can also be dangerous to someone that doesn't have much experience with one. They use hydraulic pressure to propel the paint and it is possible to inject the paint into your skin.

I paint sea containers on the side. the only way to get the job done quickly is with a airless. a 20ft box in 35 min including the roof! but really just go get a cheap [$29.] spraygun, mine has painted several trucks, trailers and a lot of misc.and still working good. so good luck.

I think I said airless was the way to go if you are looking for a lot of paint out the nozzle. My painting contractor friends think HVLP is only good for refinishing an existing kitchen. Otherwise too little product coming out of the gun to get the job done in a reasonable amount of time. That's the only advantage of airless. And you get a cloud to work in. Need to spray 5-50 gallons? Airless. Need to spray something small? Either a standard air gun or HVLP is better. And a whole lot nicer working environment. You can get a pretty good finish with airless with the small percentage of finish that actually lands on the target. Unless your machinery is huge and you don't mind the overspray, you'll do better with air.
