While working on a fan motor, it reversed and now runs backward. How can I get it back?

Did you have the motor apart? Some small fans if you turn the center section of the motor around (end for end) rotation reverses.

I can't tell you exactly how to change the rotation of the motor, but you hooked up two wires backwards in the motor itself.

Years ago, my dad had several silage wagons that had a roll on the back. There were cables rapped around the rolls and hooked up to false endgates, to pull off the siliage. The portable device that turned the rolls could be mouted on either side of the wagon, depending what ever side was handy. He put a on-off-on switch on the motor that would make the electric motor turn one way on one side of the wagon and turn the electric motor the other way when it was mounted on the other side of the wagon. Somewhat like the cealing(sp) fan in your house.

Having said all that, try reversing two of the wires you had off.

My first answer was going to be that you pluged it in backward, but people don't like my humer----are you sure that it didn't all way turn that way, as an exhaust fan? Lot of diferent types, if sieres wound, reverse the field winding. This applies to other types too. If shaded pole its the little copper things on one edge of the field cores. If permenet magnet DC, reverse the powercord.

Putting blade on backwards still blows air the same way as before, only usually not as efficiently.

Perhaps he is working on a 12 volt and has reversed the electrical wires.

It's a 120 volt ac. And no, we did put the blade on backward. We tried reversing the wires, no luck. It actually reversed as we put a drop of oil on the bearing. It changed direction as we watched.

you have to replace the motor it is a shaded pole motor and the copper wire that shades the pole eilectial has broked no fix for this

Only way it could do that is if it has a short some place and if so I would not use it or it might cause bigger problems like a bad short and burn down a house etc.
