I hear a lot of you talking about using torches and I was wondering what you use to test for leaks, that is compatible with Oxygen, when hooking up lines or regulators? I went to local supplier (Liquid Air) and the fellow behind the counter told me that they no longer carried anything like that because not compatible with O2. Wouldn't even give me alternate suggestions! Maybe this is a Canadian thing. What do you use? Soapy water? Any particular brand?

Thanks fellas. Soapy water seemed right, but was concerned about oils in formulation. I know the adds for Ivory say 99.9% pure, but pure what?;-) Refrigeration mech I know suggested Snoop or a generic they use because it works in all temperatures. Apparently they have to be very careful about chlorine when testing. It destroys alluminium (fins, condenser) in short order.

Doug's right. Use Ivory 10 to 1. Don't use just any soap because most have oils in them & that is a big no-no with oxygen. I learned this fron a couple of old timers years ago.

Rick,
I use one part Ivory dish soap and ten parts water to leak test for oxy and acety leaks. Works on other stuff too. You DON"T want to use anything with oil to check oxy or it can explode. Doug

Ask for stuff called snoop. It comes in a low temperature form too so it won't freeze as easily. If it's not available soapy water will do. Dave

If your wanting something to use to test for leaks then nothing beats soapy water. Make up a good mix with dish detergent and water and put it in a spray bottle and there you go. It's about as low tech as you can get but it works suprisingly well.
