Is the 87 suburban full time 4 wheel drive? I have a chance to pick one up cheep for a beeter/fishing truck. How hard to convert to part time? Thanks for any help. Steve

Steve, I thought about this more today at work. Could someone along its lifetime put a NP203 full time 4wd transfer case in it?. In that case, you can buy a kit to convert them to selective 2/4wd. I bought one once from JCWhiteney and it was reasonable and it took about an hour or less from start to finish to put it in. It worked great. You just replaced some spider gears with some sliders if I remember correctly. I am just guessing what gave you the idea it was full time 4wd is solid front hubs. They can be replaced easily and relatively inexpensively as well. i have never had good luck with the ones that are supposed to be "self locking". I always found they never unlocked and my front axle turned all the time. I always liked manual lock in/out.

Agree with Bob. The last full time 4wd transfer case in a Chev was the NP203 which was in up till 79/80. That will probably be a NP207. A good truck, easy to get parts for, cheap to get parts for, easy to work on for the most part.
