OT - Garage Door

So last night I was out on the porch enjoying a cigar, when all of the sudden the garage door on my wife's side of the garage starts going up on it's own. When I came out of the house that morning, it was up about a foot. Anyway, I got the remote and closed it. About 20 minutes later it started going back up again. I closed it and it jammed about 2" off the floor, I disconnected it from the opener. This morning I reconnected it and it opened and closed just fine. We live about 1/4 mile off the road so it could not be anyone else opening it. We do live about 1 mile from a medium sized airport. Coud that have anything to do with it? I was thinking it has something to do with the button inside the garage.

I fix doors for a living. I would make sure the remote button is not stickiing. It will do all kinds of crazy things if it constantly receiving a signal.

doubt it's the button as if it is activated it should go all the way up. Do not rule out 2 way radio trafic / portable phones etc. They all have been known to goof things up. I would change the frequncy before doing anything.

I have had my garage open when it wasnt supposed to be, could have opened on its own or I forgot to close it. I would like to buy a heavy duty door with heavy duty opener, but it costs money.

Had the same "phantom" door openings on my garage door. One day during thunder storm, lightning hit close & door went up. I replaced the logic board in the power head & for added insurance, I now use a power surge protector at the power outlet that opener is plugged into. Have not had any more phantom openings since.

Start with the simplest thing and go up. I would replace the button on the wall first. If the problem persists then go a little deeper. I doubt that it is all the sudden getting a signal from the airport. It is most likely a malfunction within the unit somewhere. Usually a sign that it is time to replace it.

It was raining last night so I think the garage expands and contracts a little bit, it did this in the winter once. The opener is only two years old. I thik the button is too tight on the wall and it flexes with the wall and activates the door.
