My 3/8" air ratchet just quit working the other day. Won't turn at all. Took the whole thing apart, oiled everything and turned it back and forth by hand. Put it back together and it still won't turn when I put the air to it. What am I missing? Anyone else have this problem.

Thanks for the suggestions, I think I'll unscrew the air fitting and go from there. I'didn't take the vane motor apart either.

Had the same problem with an air ratchet a couple of years ago--I was given the ratchet because "it didn't turn". Figured at that price I could mess with it a bit--ended up taking it apart and dousing everything with PB Blaster's air tool cleaner. Sprayed in in the air inlet and let it set a couple of days, reassembled it and it's worked fine ever since. If you have a store that carries Blaster handy, check out their air tool cleaner--comes in a similar can to the regular Blaster and seems to make a big difference, particularly with older, tired tools.

Sounds like it's plugged. Can you hear the air flow through it?

These are powered by a rotory vane motor and the inlets can get plugged easily with muck and debris. Check the inlet hole in the tool itself. Take the air fitting out and make sure there isn't something in the end that's blocking flow.

You may need to pull it all apart and take the rotor out of the cylinder to see what's going on. Next step would be to take the cylinder out and make sure the inlets are open. These should be slots on one end of the cylinder. Be careful not to damage the vanes and re-install them correctly if they come out of the rotor itself.

Worked in a plant years ago for Gardner-Denver making air tools. Learned more than I wanted to know about what could go wrong.

air tools have some kind of a seal in them, I'd think that's what's wrong with it.
