battery resurection-E-Bay

Had one of my Dewalt 18 volt batteries go dead. Wouldn't even light up the light on the charger. I was on E-Bay and I saw this site, for $11 they would send you instructions on how to ressurect your dead batteries. Tried it-didn't work. Oh well-should have known better-sounded too good to be true. Anybody else try this?

I learned of that trick without having to pay for it, but it didn't work for me either. Go to Amazon.com. I found one heck of a deal on 2 new batteries.

Too bad for $14 or $18 you probably got a generic replacement battery from a dozen vendors on amazon. I've had a pair for 2 years or so for my 12V Ryobi and they are still going strong. Actually, I think, better batteries than the originals.

Speaking of things that are too good to be true, how does it work when you buy something you hear about on the radio that can't possibly be true, but it's sold with a money back if you're not 100% satisfied guarantee? If you pay for such an item with a real credit card (not the "lite" version credit card that's on your debit card---the one that isn't weighted down with a bunch of consumer protection features) you've actually got quite a bit of protection. If you dispute a charge on a purchase that was made for something with a money back guarantee, you're virtually certain to have the charge reversed, and it doesn't take a lot of your time to do it.

Do those places count on most people not bothering to go to the trouble to ask for their money back when their heads stay bald, or their terminal eczema doesn't clear up, or they stay fat, or various appendages and accessories don't grow? Or do they simply wait until they have great quantities of valid credit card numbers and then sell them to Russian gangsters or fleeing Nigerian politicians' wives?

Simple procedure--hook up your - terminal to the - on a battery charger set for a higher voltage than your battery. I usually go 12 on 7.2's, 9.6's, and 12-volts, and 24 on 14.4 or 18-volt batteries. I also usually use jumper wires rather than hooking the charger direct, simply because it's easier to fit smaller wires onto the terminals. Turn on the battery charger and repeatedly tap the + terminal with the + jumper. You should see a small spark. Hold the jumper in place for a second or two--no more or you could fry the battery or make it explode (wear safety glasses--I've never had one explode, but better safe than sorry). Do this half a dozen times and charge as normal. Note: this is NOT a miracle cure and won't cure dead shorts or totally toasted batteries, but I've done it a couple dozen times and got additional life from "dead" batteries. I'll pick up every $5.00 drill, light, etc. I can find at garage sales, and over half the time I can get at least one of the batteries to take enough charge to be well worth the investment.

Zapping nicads can work on some of them. But the ones that it does work on do not usually last long.

A GOOGLE search would have probably turned up what they sold you, for free.

There's the old "zap them with a charged electrolytic capacitor or battery method", and tossing them in a freezer for a while. Others?
