Honda ATV 12 volt problem

My uncle's 1985 Honda 250 ATV has an electrical problem. Worked fine one day and not the next. It does not have any electrical power. Starter will not work. No lights No neutral/reverse light Battery and connections are good and a fuse by the battery is also good. Traced power to the main switch. Ok there and to the next junction. could not follow it any farther. Too many taped wires. It will kick start and run OK. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Double checked all fuses. OK checked every connection I could see.. Still no luck Thanks for all your suggestions. Rick

Not familiar with that model but maybe a relay is not working properly. Relays are usually about an inch sqaure, black or silver, rubber mounted and will be tucked away inbetween the frame, in a headlight pod or under the gas tank near the ignition coil.

check for a fuse, it should be on the left rear of the machine just below the seat. its in a little waterproof holder. there should be a little aluminum box with fins on it right near the fuse. kind of on the upper frame rail left side, just below the seat.

Check the ground strap(s) between the engine and the chassis.

Engine does not get grounded to the frame. CDI, and generator have ground wires, so they don't need to carry a ground to frame. Even if they did, the engines are mounted with solid mounts and 5 bolts(just engine, frame has 4 more). that would be more than enough to carry ground if it had to. Doug N
