Old motor 3 phase 440V

Came across a planer. Bought it. It has a 3 phase motor 5hp 440v which I planned on replacing at purchase but for the heck of it I took it a part. Off the windings it has 12 leads that neck down to 3 leads. 4 wires per lead going out. (That probably makes no sense.)
Its a GE motor 5hp Induction motor 3450 continuous rpm 4 18A. So the question. What kind of motor or winding is it? Y connected 12 lead? The patent date on the motor is 1906 or there abouts. (I just came in from the green house drinking a lemonade and tequila --the motor autopsy threw off my schedule) The wires coming out of the motor winding are in poor shape and the shaft has a good 1/2" of end -end play. I'm just curious not planning on reusing it. The planer is a porter 24" in primo condition round head cutter 3 knife babbit bearing. Going to salvage yard this week to find a 3 phase 208-240 motor.

You likely have capa bility for 220volt or 440 volt with the 12 wires, but it still is 3 phase needed. For 440v 1,2,3 are line. 4 to 7 conect together, 5 to 8 connect together, 6 to 9 connect together. For 220volt, I don't remember but it may have tag showing connections.

The twelve leads fanning from the three phase leads attach to the 'poles.' I think that means you have four pairs of poles. I didn't take time to look up the particulars but the number of poles determines the motor RPM. I agree with the Y configuration. Doesn't one of the leads connect to the frame and one connect to a common point at the end of the coils opposite the other twelve leads? I haven't worked on power or motors for years and my long-term memory storage is escaping to the bit bucket.

If you got 3 phase in you shop fine or a converter fine if not just get a 220 volt moter you may have to redo the moter mounts
