Anyone know offhand who builds or was making Craftsman Torch sets 2-3 yrs back?Have a chance to pickup a set as sold along w/med size tanks and cart for what I feel is a real fair price from original purchaser.Rig was bought to cut up some scrap machinery on homestead and only cutting head has ever been used. Two stage regulators and such are like new, well treated/cared for.Tanks are Prax-aire,but apparently legally"off contract" and privately owned by seller.Local dealer will fill w/o contract.

Take the tip out of the torch and match it up with a new one at a welding supply. It will tell you what brand of common torch it will fit. Some tips are interchangable but not many. There are a bunch of chinese copies of Victor torches but if it's a unique type of seat, you will be able to tell. Show the whole set to a good welding supply or better yet a good repair depot. I can't say for sure but I saw a post the other day that said the first three letters of the part number are for the manufacturer and he gave this website as a source of those manufacturers.

I haven`t looked at any Craftsman torches in a few years but they used to be made by Harris which is a Lincoln Electric owned company, good torches for the size.

But, beware! Some folks who say they can sell the tanks might not own them. If they say they own them, ask to see the bill of sale from the previous owner, or from the store that sells welding supplies. I lease my tanks from a local supplier. Cost: $50 for five years. Full exchange, empty for a full one, nothing else to buy! Just the normal cost for a full tank! I might only use the torch a few times a year, but, its much easier to just turn them on, do the job, and turn them off, than gathering everything up, and driving several(read 10) miles to a weld shop. I use mine for cutting and welding, heating, brazing, etc. Some miscreants will sell you the tanks, but when you try to get them filled, or exchanged for a full one, those pesky numbers around the top of the tank might get them confiscated! And, the color of the tank holds some weight, too. So, be careful who you buy from!
