Where is the Fleet & Farm????? Sounds interesting. I was in the one in Arlington by that name, might be the same chain?

Don't know the last 2 either.

If you get out to some other towns, a Running's is pretty good too. C & S in Mankato is kinda fun.

I'll second C & S Supply in Mankato. I try to stop in there every time I'm in town.

Another is L & M Fleet Supply in north central MN. I don't know where all their stores are, but I know there's one in Little Falls, and I know I saw one in one of the towns I drove through on Highway 55 recently, but I can't remember if it was in Paynesville, Belgrade, or Brooten. Getting old...

Horse & Home that is. They don't have much tractor and what they do carry they are always out of. Every time I go in to buy things they are out of at least one of the items. I've been keeping them bought out of filters for my JD4430 so they rewarded me by discontinuing them. If it wasn't the only farm type store in my area I wouldn't go there.

The best farm store I ever been to is called Blue Stem, It is located in Emporia, Ks. I've been to TSC, Atwood's, Erchillin, and none of them even come close.. The store is about 3-4 times the size of every TSC store I've been in. It has a large tool section. Heck, even the Wife enjoys going to Blue Stem. Oh, they have some old fashion values, like closing on Sundays..

You shore don't have your sights aimed too high, I'd rather shop online, where there's half a chance of finding something in stock, with out havin to burn a tank of gas to figger it out!

What about Town and Country??? Big R is good and has Bass Pro fishing tackle. Rural King is good for sporting goods and farm items. Iowa has tractor supply.

Let's hear it from the West coast shoppers?

Let's hear from the land of Yaaahs, wade in!

Bought a set of truck tires from Blains. Best price for miles.

Have my chain saw chain sharpen at Big R five dollars while you wait and the saw was given to me. Now I have ten dollars in a free saw. Go figure. I was once told to never look a gift horse under the tail!

I guess it all depends on what you are shopping for. If you are looking for horse or pet supplies, you will be a happy camper. If you are looking for quality tractor parts, you will be disappointed. I have been in most of the stores mentioned, and I usually walk back out empty handed, wondering why I went in there in the first place.

Dont forget Bomgaars out of Sioux City, Ia. Great stores. Course the bigger ones carry more variety, and stock more items.

I too am a simple man and the stores on your list are some of my favorites too. I have been in Farm and Fleet, Fleet Farm, TSC,and Big R. Don't know Orchard supply. Where are they located? We also have the chains- Ranch and Home, Costal Supply and Del's out here. I heard that TSC may have reciently bought Del's so that may no longer count as another brand. Love a store where you can buy a pair of boots, something pretty for your lady, fence posts, Chrome truck accessories, hitch pins, mower parts, candy, dewormer, shotgunshells,a new stove, baby ducks and a bag of beef jerky all under one roof!

I've been in 3. Fleet Farm, farm & Fleet, & TSC.

Fleet Farm is the king. They have what I need when I need it, unless it's a dealer part. For wear parts, they're the place to go. Was only in the farm & fleet once, had the 1 thing I needed, so I was happy & on my way.

TSC, on the other hand, is severely disapointing, and never has what we need. Trouble is, they're closest. Just last weekend I needed 4 things- right hand sickle end sections, 11 gallons of 80W-90, 7014 welding rod, and a 2-flat wire harness for some wireing I was gonna do on the chopper.

They didn't have any 80-90 on the floor(no spot for it even), no end sections for LH or RH end of sickel bar(again, no spot for them either), and no 2-flat harness either(you guessed it). I was so pisssed I walked out before looking for the welding rod. Luckily, i was just going to browse because I was on my way home from Fleet farm and was gonna get just 1 more thing I really didn't need, but woulda been nice. Another 7/8" draw pin. These actually had a hook in back where they have their 1 row of ag stuff, but they were all gone and priced $4 more than Fleet Farm, who was also sold out at that time, in both styles of that size that they carry.

I'm a simple man too, don't like confrontation, but when a store like that can't have 1 useful thing to me on the shelf, they quickly get me frustrated and ready to rip them a new one.

Western wear and goat feed store in reply to Don-Wi, 07-07-2007 23:39:42
They also have dog food ,expensive dog food. But tractor parts forget it. I've seen the Speeco section filled at one time, so I know they sell the 3pt stuff, but the don't pay attention to there stock. The big dealerships only stock stuff for 100 hp and up tractors, no money in us low hp people I guess. Lo HP Tractor parts is scarce around here. I won't name the store name, but I've the same frustration in going it and coming out empty handed. Just wish they pay attention to tractor parts like they do them fancy boots and pants neither of which I can afford. bjr

Hi bjr,

I don't follow your reasoning on not naming the name of a store that disappoints you. What part of not helping you earned them your loyalty?

We consumers seem so abused and neglected and powerless nowadays, it seems like passing on the names of retailers who won't bother to provide decent service is one of the only things we can do---and it's a drop in the ocean, at that.

All the best, Stan

It aint just the dog food that's expensive there... I went in the TSC shortly after it opened about 2 years ago, and they had a fair selection of stuff that we might have a slight chance of needing, but since then most of that stuff was pulled of the shelves in order to make more room for horse crap.

Our dealers do a fine job of catering to the small guys as well as the bigger guys. Never realy had a problem with them, except the local dealer who basically USED to be a Case IH dealer/Fox/Gehl. They still sell Case and IH stuff, but now they're ino tall the compacts and their lot is full of the same old decrepid rusted out machines for the last 10 years. Some of it they cleaned up and scrapped out finally, but more should go along for the ride. We don't have any IH or Case stuff, the Massey dealer bought another dealership farther south that handles Gehl (although now it's just parts and used gehl ag equip.- they quit manufacture of their ag line last year) so they can get anything we need (only have a Gehl 970 forage wagon though) and for the Fox 3000, we just go straight through Hiniker. We avoid that dealer at all costs.
