I am rebuilding an engine for a '30 JD GP series. 12 of the 16 cylinder head studs thread into holes that are open to the water jacket. Does anyone have any experience with sealants that will prevent the coolant from leaking and corroding the studs? I don't think Teflon tape will work since it is a machine thread, not a pipe thread. I would like to be able to remove these in the future, so no Locktite. Does anyone have any ideas?

I use a lot of Locktite Pneumatic Hydraulic sealer, (not sure if there's a number on it), it's not a threadlocker but a sealant. Have used it with regular setscrews in dies too small to use regular pipe plugs with no problem. As some of these dies can get up to 500-600 F it should work for you. (Don't know the actual temperature range for it)

I have used anti-seize compound for many years with good luck. Doc

I have used Loctite PST (pipe sealant with Teflon) for years to set "wet" studs into engines. Never had a problem yet.

I know that there are other products available, maybe someone else will add their suggestions.
