I just got three bags off clothes that were picked thru with nothing good left but "rags". I was going to just go thru them and pull out anything 100% cotton but I found a lot of wore out synthetic sweaters and nylon flesse stuff. Have you ever found a good use for a rag that was not cotton? Maybe the flesse would be good to remove wax from a car. Any thoughts on this all so important issue?

IMO old cotton socks make the best rags. Just pull it inside-out for instant clean rag.

The good cotton ones are the best of course but the rest are good for cleaning stuff that would go through paper towels too fast. Just last night I was cleaning oil off a motorcycle engine. I can push a good rag with a stick through a tight spot where a papertowel would just tear.

I use all type of cloth in my shop for rags, I always need to wipe grease/oil off my hands and the tools. My wife buys rag bags at the local thrift store and goes through them and keeps what can be used and then cut the rest up for shop rags
