reverse electrolysis on babbit

Have a question for the reverse electrolysis people. I've been wanting to try it for quite a while and think I might have the perfect opportunity on an old syrup press I found, about three quarters buried and locked up tight. Instead of sand blasting I thought it would be gentler and better on it to try the R.E. trick but I think the thing has babbit bearings on the rollers and I don't know what effect it will have on these???? Thanks, Matt.

I never tried electrolysis on anything like you describe, but at work we have some very large babbited bearings and we go to great lengths to prevent them from conducting current.

I would suggest protecting the bearing surfaces with something like a coat of grease or something and checking them often for signs of damage until you get a feel for what effect it might have on the babbit.
