Try using Skype. Free download and free calls between computers. You can also open an account and call from computer to phones for cheap. I pay 2 cents a minute to call phones in USA from Mexico. We bought a Cisco iPhone cordless that is made for Skype and sound quality is as good as using regular phone. So, I can grab a cold one, get in swimming pool and call make calls from computer in the house. No more headset.

I used to do that yahoo voice thing and it worked fine. Be sure he runs that voice or mic setup in yahoo which verifies BOTH the mic and headsets are working. If its configured correct n passes BOTH set up checks, it ought to work. He may need to open up his Volume Control toolbar in Windows cuz one or the other may be muted out or turned down. Between the Volume Control toolbar and the yahoo voice set up he ought to make it work.
