Pole Barn - Gambrel Trusses Opinion

Hello all...I"m looking at building a 30x40 pole barn this fall or next spring, and just starting to get quotes. Has anyone out there used the gambrel trusses with attic storage? I have seen them advertised in the Farm and Dairy newspaper...they say they are good for 80 psf (what they call hay load) on 24" centers.

Just wondering if this is a good lower-cost alternative for a 2-story gambrel barn. The 2nd floor would be used for storage, some hay, etc.

I've got a 28 X 32 gambrell barn , with scratch built trusses..2nd floor 14' to ridge-boards..The Amish said it was a 55 lb roof..Been there 18 years without a sag or grunt..NE Ohio snows

I hope some posts under it like for a row of horse stalls or something. Thirty foot clear span with hay storage up seems like a long stretch. Your cooperative extension office will have good engineering advice available in book or pamplet form. Worth the price.
