I had a well put in about 6 years ago. 220 feet down. I live in NE the well is down into the aquafer, so good water. However, I have fine sand that has started appearing. I put a tornado filter on to filter the sand from my indoor stuff, washing machine, etc. However the question I have is it seems to be getting worse meaning In one day I can drain out a cup or more of sand. So how do they fix this problem. Do they have to pull case out . and what could be the cost . I relize it isnt good for my pump either. Any help is appreceiated.

It could be a crack in the pipe coming to the house. We had ours crack two weeks ago where it turns to come towards the house and a lot of dirt got in. Check the cheaper stuff first :)

Sounds like they didn't either a) pump the well clean or b) put the right size casing (not fine enough opening to prevent the sand. You could contact a drilling company or see if you can find a sand bucket and clean it yourself, or rig up a sand point on the end of the inlet as a peliminary filter for the sand.

It could be that your well has silted in a little. Usually the pump is put 4 or 6 feet off of the bottom of the well. Over time that space can fill in. A simple fix could be to raise your pump up a few feet and see if that helps. The outfit that drilled my well put a cap on the bottom of the perferated casing pipe. I set my pump about 8" off the bottom. That way I can get rid of any sand that filters in a little at a time.

You may be able to clean it they way they used to do new wells. That was to run pipe form the well (no pressure tank or switch) with a gate valve on it. turn pump on manually with valve 1/4 open and run for 2 hours, then half open for 2 hours, then wide open for 2 or 3 hours. That was supposed to flush all the cuttings, sediment, etc. out of the well.
