My grandmother has a 400 and a farmall H that have been park for something in the 20 years region. I got the cub running beautifully but the engines seem to be frozen, they ran when they parked them and the oil even looks good. I thought that I would ask before I start using some tricks of the trade that I know. Anyone have any suggestions

I agree with what Ford man says, and wanted to add this. I have never tried it but have heard of guys pouring hot water in the cooling system right at the point of trying to break it loose. The idea is that the heat will slightly expand the cylinder walls. Worth a try I guess.

The trick people always seem to want to use is to get it rolling and let the clutch out. You have a big risk of breaking something expensive by trying that. Better is to do what Ford Man said. You could also jack up the rear wheels and work them back and forth by hand.

Chad,
You probably have a ring or rings that are rusted stuck to the cylinder walls or something along those lines .

Everyone has their own recipe to pour down the cylinders . I would first take of the heads and see if anything jumps out at you as being the problem . ( Hopefully , nothing will actually jump out at you ! )

Anyway , pour your favorite mix in each cylinder and let it soak in for a few days . I would try one or more of the following loosening juices , kerosene , WD-40 , Kroil , Marvel Mystery Oil , Liquid Wrench , and so on . Some folks swear by using Coca Cola but I have never tried it ! I have had the best luck freeing rusted parts using Liquid Wrench .

After letting it soak , try GENTLY turning the engine using a hand crank if you have one . If it does not come loose , soak her down some more and repeat the whole wait and see process .MAYBE try a LIGHT TAP on each piston with a hammer and block of wood . BE GENTLE ! Eventually , it should break loose with good luck .

Was able to free up a BUDA power unit that had been sitting outside without a head for several years using the method above .

Let us know what works for you .

Good Luck and Enjoy your new toys !
