Lincoln 100 or Hobart 125, which is better?

Plan to purchase a wire feed welder in the near future. I have used the Lincoln Weld Pac 100 before and found it simple and user friendly. I'm curious about the Hobart 125 EZ, pros or cons. I can purchase it new for close to 100 bucks less (TSC emp disc) than the Lincoln so obviously I'm leaning toward it but wondered if anyone out there could enlighten me first. My money tree is ill so the bucks aren't falling off so money is tight and I don't want to waste what little I have. Thanks in advance for any ideas, suggestions and or past experiences with either machine.

I have the Lincoln 100 and it does a very good job for what it is designed for,Light guage welding but for any thing more than 1/8" I use my tried and trusty Forney 225 Stick Welder. Neither one of the two you mention,"IN my Opinion " will do a constant and true job of Welding 1/4 " Plate Etc. and up. They will do a lot of Smoke making and run thru a lot of Fluxcore Wire but the Welding Job is not quality. Wire Welders being used beyond their limits are very expensive to operate and the Welding Job may be questionable as far as quality of the Weld is concerned.

rgvtx: As mjbrown mentioned, you may want to think long and hard about buying either one of these welders. Even a free welder is no bargain if it won't do what you want it to, (wiser heads than mine are sorting out this exact problem for Stan in Oly WA a couple threads below this one!) and if you're doing any more than the barest minimum of welding, I'd be more inclined to spend a bit more and get something beyond an entry-level machine. This doesn't mean you have to spend 20 grand on a trailer-mounted 600-amp unit, but at least get something that's gas-capable. I've had excellent luck with my Hobart Handler 135, and a comparable Miller or Lincoln should work equally well. $500 or so will set you up with a full rig, and you won't have to spend the money twice--once on a cheapie and once on something that will do what you want. Even then, bear in mind that any 110-V wire feed welder is quite limited on the thickness you can do in one pass, and while they're an incredibly handy tool, they're no substitute for a larger machine if you're planning on doing heavy fabrication.

Some few internal parts (cannot remember, maybe the wire drive wheel?) for the Lincolns purchased at the big box stores are slightly different from the similar ones from a real welding supply. If you need a part, you will have to order from Lincoln directly with that built in delay. Otherwise, I have run a lot of spools of wire through mine. Do get the gas kit and big spool conversion if you will be using a lot. Don"t know about the Hobart, but being an employee may be a plus for parts. I will have to leave it to others if there are any negatives.

I didn't see a gas set-up for argon/co2...Get it..You won't be sorry..Welding with gas is so much cleaner than inner-shield..I've used both the Handler and Lincoln..Both excellent machines..I wouldn't be leary of either machines..I've used them for stainless , mild sheet , structural steels with no problem..I own a Snap-On 230 amp mig welder myself [ much bigger machine ]..I use the smaller machines when doing small jobs away from the shop at the winery..My portable is a Hobart 250 amp , jeep powered welder..

Those little welders are intended for flux core only. I don't believe either will be much good. They are just too underpowered. Check the swap sheets for a used welder with more power for the same buck.
