Hello, Folks. I have an old Watson 5' bush hog that we've had for 35 years. Still works good, but is a little sloppy. Doesn't leak gear oil. A man down the road has a pretty clean Rhino 6' bush hog for 500.00(maybe less). My tractor is a TO 35 Deluxe. I know it will pull the 6 footer. I'm just wondering how much time I'll save and how much better I'll like a 6 footer over the old 5. Or, would you folks stick with what I already have? I have about 6 acres to cut regularly. Thanks!

That sounds like a good price for a 6 ft name brand mower, and power wise, your TO-35 can handle that in grass. Watch out for the weight though, because if it's significantly heavier, when you lift it up with the three point, your front wheels may come off the ground!

You should be able to cut about 20% faster(6/5=1.2) for the same ground speed, but you'll burn more fuel.

I'd be concerned about the added rear weight of a 6-footer. The Rhino probably is longer also, which will extend weight further out making more weight stress. I ran a MF 135 with a 5-ft bush hog for years, and that was a real good combination. If you have any hills I'd stick with a 5-footer for safety. I now run a 6-foot Landpride on my MF 165 and use 400# front weight plates for safety/stability.

It's it's a heavy duty hog that sounds like a good price. Might be a just a bit heavy for the To35, try it out before buying.

I do have a pond to cut around, so I may should stick with the 5' one. A larger one may make the tractor less stable on inclines?

Will the 35 pick up the Rhino and if it picks it up will it be too light on the front end? I would try it out before buying. Price sound good though.

I operate a 6 foot tiller with no problem. It's heavy. I do think my old bush hog is just as heavy as the Rhino. The Rhino doesn't seem to have as thick of steel. But the skids on the rhino look great, like it hasn't been used in excess. Thanks.....I don't know what to do...

The recommended minimum horsepower for a 6 foot rotary mower is around 30 hp. This puts your TO-35 right at the minimum. If you keep the grass short, you'll be OK, but if you plan to take on brush or full grown pasture grass a 6 foot mower is too big for your tractor to spin, even if it can pick it up OK.
