Bolt holding the bracket for the belt tensioning spring acts like it's stripped but threads on the bolt look ok. This bolt goes into one corner of the cast metal hub that holds the center blade and pulley. Could it be that the hole in the cast piece is not threaded and the bolt is held just by friction? If the hole in the cast piece got reamed by the bolt, is there a less expensive fix than replacing the hub? Thanks.

Could you use a slightly longer bolt and locknut?

Some manufacturers use self tapping bolts for these kinds of things. Depending on how well the hole in the casting is formed they may hold but sometimes not. If you can"t get the bolt to lock up the threads are stripped. Drilling and tapping for a heli-coil would be a robust way to fix this.

Install a heli-coil in the hub. Most autoparts carry the heli-coil kits.
