Is JB Weld still the best stuff?

Been using JB Weld to fix stuff for almost twenty years. Does what it says it'll do. Use JB Kwik on other light stuff. I recently began to see many newcomers in the market. Some have side-by-side syringes that will mix the exact proportions. And others just squeeze out of the tube. The strenghts seem to be about the same. Working on a few projects and am interested in the consensus.

Bought it today, but haven't used it yet. Will it work on plastic? It doesn't say "plastic" on the package, but that's what the salesman at True Value sold me.
Thanks for your advice, and please keep my name on your in-house mailing list only.

I've got a project that I've been talking to tech assist. Loctite: 1-800-562-8483 and Devcon: 1-800-933-8266..... .

I have tried JB weld several times and have never had much luck with it. It seems to always come loose later on and fall out. Have tried several of the clear epoxies where oil or heat was not involved and have had them hold better than the JB. I don't know a better product, just have had poor luck especially on metal.

I used JB on my punctured oil pan, it did wonders. Haven't had any leaks since then!

This may be a little off subject, considering your talking about an epoxy type substance, but I carry Quikweld with me when riding enduro on my motorcycle in the middle of know where. It is a clay type substance, sort of like play-dough, any ways, you break off the amount you need and kneed the 2 parts together in your fingers until it is mixed and then apply it to whatever is broken, in my case it was a broken brake cable bracket on my 350XR, I either brushed a log or tree or something, didn't know until I went to use my brakes. Anyway, I was 15-20 miles in the woods not a sole in sight accept for my buddies dust. I fixed it 3 summers ago, right there on the trail, and haven't even bothered to take it off and fix it right, it's holding just fine. Supposedly it has an 800 psi tensile rating. Don't know if that is all that great, but it's good enough when you don't have brakes.

I research the subject a little a coupel of months ago. What decided me was that JB Weld has a higher temperature rating than others. May not be too improtant, but not being as near the max. temp. seems like a good thing. I was fixing an engine block.

I was just at the bearing parts store to pick up some seals and asked if they had any JB Weld. They said that they did not, but had been trying to get into their store for a long time. Thye said that JB Weld is in a class by itself and that nothing even comes close to it. The counter person was an old gent that had been there for years and you just want to trust his experience.

Marine tex is another good epoxy and comes in quantity that makes in much more affordable. Boat repair/service facilities sell the product. It is petroleum resistant and info can be found on the product on the web.

I too like Marine-tex, but in small quantities like most of us use, it is more expensive than JB Weld. It also seems more sensitve to the mixing ratio than JB - I have a scorched spot in the yard to prove it.

If you are doing a big job, some of the serious epoxy people like System 3, MAS, Geugeon(Sp?) make good products, but you have to buy the epoxy & the hardener& the fillers. You can do some neat things this way, but for patching a gas tank or a cracked motor, JB Weld is probably as good a bet as anything.

I've tried a couple of the other epoxies and wasn't happy with them. JB Weld has never failed me so I have always gone back to it. Now it's the only one in my tool box.

I just bought a 1948 B model JD, it had a crack in the bottom water jacket. Put JB to work and it is still holding, have run about 17 hours so far and cut 26 acres of hay.
