What would be the minimum PSI & gallons per minute that you would recommend for a decent pressure washer?

The car washers around here have all gone to low PSI systems (and low water volume) that doesn't seem much better then a garden hose. I figure if I can hold my hand 3 inches away from the spray tip it aint doing much.

Mine"s 3200psi, 3.5 gpm. Like it a lot. Even cleans much baked on oil and grease off machinery. Loaned it to a friend, and he got a little careless, and cut the plastic trim on his car"s bumper cover. But there"s no substitute for pressure, flow when you need it!

Safer and better to just use a soft brush on a broom handle for the car exterior.

kinda depends on what your washing. for general car washing, i'd stay under 2000psi washer. more than that and you can blow the paint, stripes and mouldings right off a car.if you are doing heavy cleanup , degreaseing, ect then go with a big one. i been wanting to get one of those steam cleaners, but i just cant seem to come up with a spare couple grand.
