Rechargeable Battery Rebuild

A while back there was a discussion on rechargeable batteries for hand tools. I have a number of Craftsman 19.2 Volt power tools that the batteries are starting to die on. They are around $50 a pop for new ones. I believe there were a number of sources for either off market batteries or rebuild services. Could you weigh in with the names and links to these people again?

I just rebuilt 4 18V Milwaukee NiCd packs.
Bought battery cells off Ebay(usually they are called "sub-c" cells), came to $25 for each 18V pack. I did the work myself, takes time and patience to copy the old battery pack and solder up all those cells, estimate a good 2hrs+ per pack if your fast on soldering.
So far packs are holding up well, still only on their second recharge so time will tell....

I bought a WHOLE new battery for my milwaukee for 34 bucks, factory new, on ebay. probably just a lucky shot, itll never happen again

we have the interstate battery guy that comes to the shop rebuild em. usually a week turn around. cost about 38.00 a battery

I've had rare camera batteries rebuilt here, not too expensive, but that was a long time ago. May want to check them out.

I just can't figure out the battery business. I have a 16.8 volt and an 18.0 volt Craftsman Drill/Driver. Both have been good, but they need batteries. I got an estimate from Batteries Plus to rebuild the 16.8 pack for $46.95 plus tax.
The next day, Sears has a new 18.0 volt drill/driver for sale, with two batteries, for $50.99. Maybe I just don't understand.

I got sick of playing the $$$ battery game, and most of my cordless crap sits unused, and I've gone back to 120-Volt corded stuff.

Interesting Bob, I just hung 6 drop cords from the ceiling them ones on a reel. Its either extend the cord on every thing I own are bring the cord to it. I had fergoten how well a drill werked on a cord. The big'izz reason I hung all the cords izz my battery charger will eat the plug ins on my drop lights. Bat charger has a 30 ft cord on it cuzz I kin not afford to replace a good werk'in drop light cuzz the plug in quit werk'n. still gonna shoot screws wif the cordless out their in the wild bule younder.
